That is a small bullet........

I can see a attacker still being able to come after you after taking a few hits.

Dependent of course on where you hit him.

Only someone crazed on drugs or psychosis will keep coming when you start shooting (even a 22).

This is why knowing your weapon and accurate shooting under duress is more important than caliber.

I'm not saying caliber is not important, but for 'home defense' a 22 can be fine if you do your part.

And you're right......plus you have almost zero penetration but my buddy is going to use it as a 'varmit' gun.

They're also great for plinking and training with cheap ammo costs (did I just type cheap ?)

When growing up my father used a Ruger 10/22 to shoot cows for slaughter, he put grain in front of them, drew an immaginary X between the ears and the eyes, and pulled the trigger. The cows legs folded up under them before the beast hit the ground. Just hit them in the CPU and you're all set.
I always get a kick out of shows with people showing the new "bullet proof vests" and remember the cows.

Ummm...why???

Yes, it's Kewl looking, but why? These tricked up 10/22 rifles remind me a lot of inexpensive (low power) cars with "Bumblebee" mufflers. Yes, they look snazzy, but...WHY? If you want a tacti-cool AR15, buy an AR15.

*Plinking..........5-cents per round is a heckuva lot cheaper than 45-cents per round for .223

Against a unarmoured looter or criminal it will work. A shot to the face, neck, groin, or gut is certainly going to get his attention to say the least. Plus you can hold a lot of rounds in the clips and fire off at a fast, accurate rate. The good .22 ammo can take out a Coyote so it will work on a person.

I personally don't like the tatical accessories for the 10/22. A nice scope and extended clips pretty much all you need.

This guy snapped a photo of the same model ruger that I have...Although mine doesn't have the front legs...it does have the same scope, and the same green hogue stock with the rubberized butt. It is heavy : )

I picked it up to practice accuracy

Same gun with a stainless barrel...This one is bolt action, mine isn't

Neat little Ruger Charger there. The 10/22 is a fine gun to shoot. I picked up a 10/22 Target model awhile back and I enjoy it. I put a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on it and it is as accurate as I will ever need it to be.

Re: Ruger 10/22 PrOn

Here's my 10/22, it's not even in the category of the rigs in Argent Dragons shots but it shoots very well. I bought the basic rifle at Walmart in the early 70's for something like $68. I cycled tens of thousands of rounds through the action over the next 20 years. Sometime in the late 90's I was in a gun shop when someone was taking delivery of a Target model 10/22 and had also bought a carbon fiber wrapped aftermarket barrel. They were changing the barrel to the wrapped one and I asked the new owner what he was going to do with the stock target barrel. He said he didn't care so I got it for $10, much to the disgust of the shop owner. I bought the stock for $80 or so and stuck a pro point red dot scope that I had spare from my pistol stuff.

It is a 30 round magazine. This rifle never fails to function and from 50 yards all rounds fall within 1/2 inch of the red dot. I don't shoot it in matches and can't see how you could want more from a rifle of this type. I have had the trigger tuned, by my standards the stock trigger is awful. You have to know that I compete a lot and use high buck aftermarket triggers on my competition rifles so my standards are very high.

Sorry about the background clutter in the shot, I didn't try for professionalism in this shot.

This rifle functions, it will flat throw it down range and never quit. You really wouldn't want to be in front of this, it would be a very bad day.

I need to replace my 10/22T (target model) I sold a few weeks ago, it never liked cheap ammo. I had to either feed it CCI's or match ammo to keep it from stove piping all the time. This time I'm going to buy just a regular base model 10/22, I was almost thinking of replacing it with a Marlin 60 but then I wouldn't have anything to shoot my tactical-inc magazines with.

with ammo prices zooming and availability spotty (sounds familiar) the 22LR is really shining now. just picked up a pair not sure what I'm going to do next there's just so many options for these fun little models. I hope that teardrop mag has a loader! :p
